Work At The Zoo

The Zoo in Forest Park and Education Center is a non-profit organization governed by the Forest Park Zoological Society. Situated in Forest Park, a 735 acre woodland park in Springfield, the Zoo features exotic and indigenous animals representing a large variety of species found throughout the world and in North America.

The Zoo is dedicated to wildlife education and offers a variety of educational programs and special events for children and adults. Zoo On The Go, Guided Tours, and Discovery Programs can be adapted to all age groups and interests. Different events almost every weekend allow guests to explore all aspects of science, while having a good time. Animal Tales in July and August introduces the mystery and excitement of nature through literature. Zoo Camp, during both winter and summers school vacations all children ages 6-11 to explore nature, discover wildlife and meet exotic creatures.

Title: Office Administrator

Job Description: Ensure organizational effectiveness by providing leadership and the overall management of the organizations HR and Finance department, assist with planning and direction of all aspects of organization’s operational policies, objectives, initiatives for the attainment of growth and profit. Reports to Executive Director and the Board

 

Responsibilities by Function:

  • Financial Management
    • Cash Flow Management
      • Includes daily deposits from operations, membership and educational programming
  • Payroll Management
  • Reconciliation and Reporting
    • Includes Monthly and Year End Closings
    • Communicate critical issues and performance to President
  • Inventory Management, including tracking
  • Maintain and organize all financial files

 

  • Human Resources Management
    • Recruitment Management
      • Includes identifying potential recruitment opportunities, preparing job descriptions with salary ranges, conducting interviews, assistance with interview process, preparing offer letters and handling new hire paperwork
  • Benefits Administration and Management
  • Develop and manage companywide policies and procedures
    • Includes performance evaluations, bonus structure, etc.
  • Maintain employee time tracking for payroll
  • Assist management with all personnel issues
  • Maintain and organize all personnel files

 

  • Operations Management
    • Overall Office Management
      • Office Supply Inventory Management
      • Capital Expense Management
      • Records Management
      • Lease Management
        • Includes leasehold improvements
    • Vendor Management
    • Maintain all operational business insurances
    • Administrative Tasks as necessary

 

 

 Requirements:

  • 3-5+ years’ experience working in an accounting department preferred
  • Detail oriented with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Must be flexible, a team player and able to communicate with all levels of management professionally
  • Proficient with computers, including Excel. Experience with QuickBooks preferred.
  • Occasional nights and weekends
