First Encounters gives young children an opportunity to meet various animal ambassadors at The Zoo, including reptiles, small mammals, and birds. Each First Encounters class also includes a story or craft relevant to one of the animals that the children meet. Session themes include pond life, farm day, native wildlife, birds, and household pets.

Mammals, Mud, and More gives young animal enthusiasts a chance to get up close and personal to learn about some of the unique and exciting inhabitants at The Zoo. Each session includes a story and craft or enrichment project relevant to one of the animals that the children meet. Session themes include pond life, farm day, native wildlife, birds, and household pets.

Early Childhood Education Programs Registration Form

Important information:

- All children in attendance must have an adult (age 18+) accompany them. The Zoo has a required ratio of 1 adult for every 2 children present at the program.
- These programs require preregistration. Paperwork and payment are needed seven business days prior to your session.
- Reservations aren’t confirmed until paid in full.
- We will be outside for the duration of the program – please make sure all participants are prepared for the weather.
- In the case of inclement weather, every effort will be made to reschedule the program; session dates may be switched only if there is room to accommodate additional guests on the requested date.
- Please note: the address to use to reach The Zoo is 202 Trafton Road, Springfield, MA. The Sumner Ave. entrance is closed and will remain closed through November.
