Range
Raccoons can be found in woodland and suburban areas throughout North America. Their highly variable diet allows them to survive in many different environments.
Diet
Raccoons are omnivores and opportunistic eaters with a diet influenced largely by their environment. They will eat whatever they can find, including fruits, plants, nuts, berries, insects, rodents, frogs, eggs, crayfish, and even garbage.
Social Structure
For many years, it was believed that raccoons were largely solitary. However, recent studies suggest that raccoons will live in sex-specific social groups of 3-4 individuals.
Conservation Status
Threats in the Wild
Raccoons are adaptable and do not face any major threats. Minor threats include hunting and vehicle collisions.
